Gluten Free Pastry
I absolutely love pastry, much like every other northerner I’ve ever met, and as a homage to The Great British Bake Off, here is my very special gluten free pastry recipe.
You Will Need:
- 225g Gluten Free Plain Flour
- 55g Margarine
- 55g Butter
- 1 Medium Egg
- 3 tbsp Water
The first thing to do is chop your cold butter and margarine into cubes and rub them into the gluten free flour until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
Lightly stir in one medium egg and add 2-3 tablespoons of water, one tablespoon at a time.
Using your hands, rub into a ball and keep handling it (as there is no gluten, it needs to be worked extra hard!). The mixture will be fairly crumbly so knead it on a floured surface and then place in the fridge for around an hour.
You could use your pastry for a number of things, be it a pie (see my steak pie recipe here), or savoury biscuits.
