Treacle Tart

If you’ve been inspired by Great British Bake Off’s desert week, here’s a recipe you’ll want to try. Treacle Tart is a childhood favourite and is so easy to make as it doesn’t need too many ingredients. You could be really adventurous and make your own sweet pastry, but I always buy mine.

You Will Need: (Serves 8 portions of Treacle Tart)

  • 500g Sweet Shortcrust Pastry
  • 450g Golden Syrup
  • 60g Butter
  • 250g Breadcrumbs


Begin by oiling a 9 inch tart tin and preheating the oven to 180*C.

Roll out the pastry and line the tin. Prick the base with a fork, line with baking paper and baking beans and blind bake for 20 mins in the oven.

Remove the baking beans and paper and bake for a further 5 mins to firm up.

Place the golden syrup and butter in a saucepan and melt over a gentle heat.

Slowly mix in the fine breadcrumbs before pouring the mix into your pastry case.

Bake for a further 25 mins.
